It does what it claims. It introduces Windows Server This is not a how-to or a getting started. This book does an excellent job of letting you know where the rubber meets the road with I have experience with Server , , , and The day I installed demo, my jaw dropped and I had a huge sinking feeling.

Windows Server is a major step in the direction of Cloud. Any serious programmer will tell you that it isn\’t. It is a language that gives you the ability to write OO code, but by it\’s nature, the language is not rooted in OO. The same could be said for the past MS pieces. Having said all that, I am not certified on any MS Server. I have been a \”get it done\” kind of user. There is much covered in Introducing that goes beyond my current knowledge level.

I can understand most of what it is talking about, but a fair bit goes beyond me. One thing it has done is clearly show MS\’s road map to the future of computing. It is a road map, that I believe is on target being an open source fan, that is a bit hard to swallow.

That will be changing in the next 12 months. It is not a book that I would use long term. It has informed me enough to be able to make plans for the different businesses I support, and it has informed me enough to realize it is time to retool. Given what MS has done up to this point, I do not see as a step on to the bleeding edge.

I see this change as a natural progression. I read Mitch\’s original Windows Server book and found it as a real solid staring point in learning my way thru , so I decided to pick up a kindle version of this book for and Mitch definetly nailed it, I followed up my reading with J. Looking for a reference to learn the new features in server So far, this reference is providing a great overall view of the new features and how to take advantage of them.

I would think, that after finishing, I would want to read a more technical reference in order to zero in an tweak some of the new feature. Right now, this reference is providing exactly what I need. This book is simply an overview of Server It wont actually teach you anything as to how to configure Server It reads more like pre-sales information.

At least it was a free download! Nice book, decent coverage. Good intro or primer on Windows Server I had the beta book, and some things changed in the RTM release, but still is a good book.

Thankfully I downloaded this for free, would of hated to of paid for it. Felt there wasn\’t enough technical content within the book plenty of suggested links to follow perhaps but not in the book Read more like a sales pamphlet telling you all the virtues of windows server without giving you the technical detail. Good to wet the appetite, but its in no way anything serious, would like to see just a tad more detail, and that may have prompted me to go looking for more but the author but sadly not.

Good book very useful but still a bit tech for someone like me who programes and only sets things up to test on.
